DW is a double-layered system which sees the reinforced earth structure spatially separated from the visible surface in front of it. The reinforced earth structure consists of primary reinforcement placed in front of permanent formwork according to the enveloping method. The permanent formwork functions as an installation aid, and takes the form of a reinforced earth structure with a modular outer membrane which can be adapted to the shape of the embankment. The membrane can be designed to have a permanent or temporary effect. Soil erosion on the front face of the slope is prevented using filter fleeces or erosion control matting. A second step sees visible outer membrane components with a permanent effect (galvanised steel grilles) installed at defined intervals and fixed to the earth structure. The “half gabions” are subsequently filled with stony material (grade approx. 60-90 mm) in order to create an attractive aesthetic.
Areas of application:
- Restoration further to embankment slips
- Stabilisation of embankments with gradients of up to 90°
- Usable at elevations/drop-offs
- Usable as noise protection walls
- Benefit: Facing can be replaced when damaged
